2022 ~ YEAR IN REVIEW

2020, 2021 - I can't wait to get back to work.
2022 - You called?

Just when I think I've been around long enough to have seen it all, the universe reminds me to always be on my toes. 2022 was the year it all came rushing back. It was glorious to be shooting again, it was heartwarming to see couples realise their long-awaited plans, it was overwhelming and just a touch terrifying.

Usually I shoot 40 weddings a year. Between weddings, elopements, second shooting and covering COVID-afflicted colleagues, I ended up on 66. If you work Mon-Fri that's like working the weekend as well and then some. I'm not gunna lie, it was tough. My work/life balance had no balance at all. During a 5-wedding week, my mother-in-law went into hospital and passed away soon afterwards. Leading into that week Liv and both kids caught COVID, so we isolated from each other for 7 days to ensure I could be there for my couples. Although we are past lockdowns, there are still struggles to operate a business smoothly in a 'post' COVID world. I am endlessly grateful for the support of my incredible wife. If you're a couple of mine, you're also the beneficiary of her tireless hard work.

The positive side of a work-filled year is that I was out there doing what I do best, with so many legendary lovers. Aside from my local haunts, I travelled to Quirindi, Lithgow, Bowral, Kangaroo Valley, Armidale & Canberra. I saw plenty of past couples and shot a wedding with 4 of my couples as guests, which was really special. I say it every year but I'm truly so thankful to all of you, you're the reason I get to continue doing this privileged work.

As a parent, it's become clear that I'm more invested in photographing children and families. This has been really rewarding this year, especially seeing wedding couples again. I've decided to offer family sessions throughout 2023 to explore this more.

For 2023 I'm looking to nudge that work/life balance back in the right direction. I'm excited to keep bringing my unique experience to weddings, one that focuses just as much on your enjoyment of the day as me capturing creative moments. And hopefully somewhere along the way I'll put together the 2021 version of this post, which I never got time to do.

Cheers team, see you next year 🥰
