There’s something about home weddings that I just love. It adds something genuinely personal – a unique location, somewhere that may well never be used for a wedding again. Home weddings tend to be more common in country/rural areas, and I think this just adds to the appeal. For all the beauty of the Newcastle coastline, it’s not quite the same as getting out of the city and truly having space to stretch out. Being able to look for miles and not see your nearest neighbour, or waiting for cows to move instead of traffic lights to change. At this particular wedding, it meant not having to put your phone on silent because there is no reception anyway. Little touches that add to a feeling greater than the sum of their parts.

Kez & Nath’s wedding was held on family property near Allynbrook. Their spot by the river was perfect. It reminded me strongly of my time growing up in Gloucester, a hundred clicks up the road. There was no stress, no worry. Just excitement, and a touch of nerves. This was my last wedding for the 2013-14 season, and I couldn’t have imagined a better note to end on. This is the stuff I love to shoot. More weddings like this please.
