Gloucester Wedding ~ Lisa & Brodie

Gloucester Wedding ~ Lisa & Brodie

When I think of weddings, this is what I think of.

Brodie spent the morning setting up wet-weather cover at the Aero Club for the reception. And because this is a Gloucester wedding, by Aero Club I mean a shed in a paddock. The girls from TWD were already hard at work transforming the place. Clouds were imposing, but fueled by the classic wedding breakfast of bacon and egg rolls, no one was too flustered. Lisa and the girls were prepping at the Ridge, on the other side of town. From the makeup chair you could see right across the valley. The rain looked set in, so the call was made to shift to ceremony plan B – Barrington Community Hall. Barrington (population 504’ish) was my home for about 6 years, so the opportunity to photograph a ceremony there was pretty special.

The ceremony itself was beautifully personal. Brodie’s Dad actually grew up in the house across the road – one of the many personal details that weaved its way into the day. Being in a country hall, everyone was ushered in close, which reminded me of my own wedding. Lisa & Brodie wrote the ceremony & vows themselves, including a reading from a US legal judgement that upheld marriage equality.

“Civil marriage is at once a deeply personal commitment to another human being, and a highly public celebration of the ideals of mutuality, companionship, intimacy, fidelity, and family. It is an association that promotes a way of life, not causes; a harmony in living, not political faiths; a bilateral loyalty, not commercial or social projects.

Because it fulfils yearnings for security, safe haven, and connection that express our common humanity, civil marriage is an esteemed institution, and the decision whether and whom to marry is among life’s momentous acts of self-definition. That couples are willing to embrace marriage’s solemn obligations of exclusivity, mutual support, and commitment to one another is a testament to the enduring place of marriage in our laws and in the human spirit.”

A stunning sunset kicked off the evening. We heard speeches – some heartfelt, some recounting being tested for an STD. There were copious amounts of alcohol, dancing, dessert and cake. By the end of the evening, the clouds had parted for us to get some shots underneath the stars. It was actually a bit unbelieveable how well everything had come together. Lisa & Brodie have that quality about them that makes you feel you’ve always been friends, as soon as you meet. It was a privilege to be there capturing the day and I’m stoked to be sharing these images here now.
