I love to take photographs. It might seem an obvious statement from a photographer, but that’s what it all comes back to. As those close to me can testify to, the past few years have seen the pursuit of photography (both the art and the business) envelop my life. In late 2011 it allowed me to leave my part-time job, which opened a world of opportunities for 2012. I was able to shoot (and second shoot) more weddings than ever before, meet a myriad of new people and connect with a whole new wave of clients, photographers and friends – with a lot of overlap between those groups. After 6 years, I proposed to Liv. For far too long, ‘girlfriend’ has seemed a ridiculous understatement, and come March next year I can’t wait to call her my wife. Being on the flip side of planning a wedding has given me even more appreciation for the effort and emotion involved in those that I photograph. If you happen to spot a drop of water near my eyes during the speeches, it’s just sweat, OK? Not crying.
It’s tough to narrow down the images of the year, but it’s also a great chance to summarise my position. To compare with the past, and identify where to move to in the future. I’ve grabbed my favourite shots from 2012 – work/personal, primary/secondary shooting, published/unpublished – and smushed them all together. Seeing them all is like seeing my life flashing before my eyes, but I’m far from finished. 2013 already has more weddings on the books than 2012 did, and I’m keen to push myself even further.
Bring it on.
🙂
